Frequently asked questions (General)

Where do I get started?

Sign Up using this link and download the UserAdvocate App on your Smartphone from this link. Activate your UXArmy account. At your convenient time, find yourself a quiet place and take the Trial Test on your Smartphone.

What do I need to take a Test?

To be a Tester, you’ll need an Internet connection, access to stable Wi-Fi, and an Android or iOS smartphone/tablet/phablet. To take the Tests build for Computer, you’ll need access to a desktop/laptop computer, microphone (built-in or accessory) and an Internet connection.

How are these Tests different from an online Survey?

To improve a Website or App, the businesses which create them want to see and listen to people using those. So these Tests involve usage of those websites or Apps by people like yourself. Each test has few Tasks that are important for users of those website/App. So these Tests are not just multiple choice questions, in most cases.

Who is Tester / UserAdvocate?

UXArmy UserAdvocates (Testers) are people like you and me who Sign on to test websites and apps in development--sometimes even before they’re released to the public--and to provide constructive feedback on how easy or friendly they are to use.

Why should I pass the Trial Test?

After observing that new UserAdvocates were hesitant to speak out their thoughts out loud, we realised that some practice to take a Test is helpful. Therefore in a Trial Test, the UXArmy system evaluates and highlights problems in your feedback for instance, was it rushed through, was the environment noisy, were your thoughts not spoken out loud, etc. The Trial Test can be attempted multiple times until you succeed. In the process, you also naturally learn how to provide high quality feedback.

My Trial Test evaluation failed! What do I do now?

It’s absolutely OK. Check the ratings and details of your submission in the App. Just re-attempt the Trial Test and you’d eventually succeed. Tips: Do not rush to complete the Test, be in a quiet environment and keep speaking what comes to your mind during the interaction with the website.

What to expect after my Trial Test is successful?

Once you pass the Trial Test, you are added to the list of UserAdvocates who would be sent the new Tests. However, if your Profile is not complete, there are lesser chances of receiving a Test. We suggest you complete your profile and keep it updated at all times.

What is recorded during the Test?

Your voice and screen will be recorded. The recording is only active during the duration of the Test.

What is verbal or spoken feedback?

These tests are taken remotely meaning, we don’t have access to information about the reasoning behind the actions that you took on the website / App. To understand and make your participation useful, we require you to think your thoughts loud and spontaneously - as they occur to you.

How important is it to give verbal feedback?

Absolutely important and required. Without your spoken feedback, the screen video that you upload it just like watching a movie without audio and subtitles. In short, it’s not useful and would not be approved by our clients who seek your feedback.

Would my face be recorded?

No. The system does not even access the Camera of your Smartphone or Computer.

How do I get paid?

We pay the incentives to our UserAdvocates via PayPal. You need to provide your PayPal Id via UserAdvocate App or by writing to hi@uxarmy.com You will receive your payment within 15 working days after completing a website or app test. (This waiting period allows our Clients to approve your video 'only screen and voice" recording). A test is only considered complete when your screen recording is uploaded, so make sure you connect to Internet via Wi-Fi to take the Test. Internet (3G/4G/LTE) Data connection will not be used to upload the recording.

What are you looking for in a UserAdvocate?

  • You don’t need special technical expertise. We’re seeking  consumers with a range of technology experience to provide constructive feedback on the user friendliness and ease of use of websites, apps, chatbots, and more.

  • Your opinion is important! We’re not looking for people who say good/bad, like/dislike.

  • You should be willing to provide your suggestions on how an app or website could have worked better for you.

  • You must be 18 years of age or older with access to desktop or mobile devices.

What do I need to get started?

To be a mobile tester, you’ll need an Internet connection, access to wifi, and an Android or iOS smartphone/tablet/phablet. Otherwise, you’ll need access to a desktop/laptop computer, microphone (built-in or accessory) and an internet connection.

What will I do as a UserAdvocate?

You’ll need to complete a one-time installation of UXArmy’s testing software to your device. Then, once you’re invited to take a test, follow the instructions provided. For mobile app testing and task-based tests, your screen is recorded while you take the test—so do not access any confidential information during the test. Once done, you submit your test. A complete submission requires uploading your screen recording to the UXArmy server, which will automatically happen when (and only when) you’re connected to wifi. (We do this to ensure we don’t eat into your 3G/4G mobile data limit.)

Occasionally we recruit UserAdvocates to participate in in-person user research. If we choose you, we will follow up with instructions on your role.

What am I being compensated for?

We pay you for taking a test and submitting your comments and suggestions along with the required recordings. Screen recording is required for most tests, voice recording for some. The instructions will tell you what’s required.

How will I be compensated?

Compensation varies depending on the test you’re selected for. We offer monetary compensation as well as points-based rewards. Incentives for in-person user research are generally higher, because you may be required to travel to the location where the user study is conducted, and the time commitment is greater.

How much money do I make?

Payment is commensurate with the complexity of the task or study. For task-based tests that record your think-out-loud audio and video, average compensation is $10. For standard surveys, average compensation is $5. In-person interviews and user research average $100, and payment varies depending on length and complexity of study and user demographic.

How will my personal data be used?

We mainly use your personal data to select you for the right test or study, to process compensation, and to improve our utilisation of your service as a UserAdvocate. We do not sell, trade, or rent our UserAdvocates information to others. Learn more about our Privacy Policy.

How do you prevent people from creating multiple accounts?

We have in place algorithms that check on feedback from the UXArmy UserAdvocates panel and ensure that feedback benefits businesses. Additionally, validations are also in place to ensure that users do not create multiple accounts to earn credit without giving additional value to businesses. Dishonesty in providing feedback may render your account deactivated or banned, and credits forfeited if evidence has been validated by our management team.
